Unplugged

It came up the first time while we were in Hawaii for my girlfriend Liz’s wedding in 2011. We were in our hotel room and out of nowhere, my then-fiance Rob said “When my contract is up with DirecTV, I want to get rid of our tv.” I remember it distinctly. He was sitting on the sofa in our room and I was getting dressed for the day’s excursion on the opposite side of the bed from him.

“Okay.” I scoffed, because really, who gives up tv?

“I’m serious. We are useless around a television. All we do is sit and watch.” He had a point. Granted, while being there in Hawaii, we were not glued to the tv. We were out of our room, hiking, exploring, driving to the North Shore etc. But at home, we definitely did watch a bit too much.  Continue reading
